If so, Athwal Resourcing is recruiting exclusively for a newly created Finance Controller role to join an exceptional, fast-paced manufacturing and construction business based in Dudley. This dynamic Group of companies has grown organically and via acquisition over the last few years. Over the past few years, the organisation’s growth in the UK has meant that an aspiring high-calibre Finance Controller should join the management team and work closely with the Commercial Director and Board.
You will oversee the overall accounting functions for the UK operations, ensuring the management accounting, financial reporting, and robust financial controls and disciplines are in place within the Group of companies. You will also be responsible for maintaining and improving the economic health of all the UK subsidiaries and future acquisitions. Together, they are instrumental in ensuring financial performance aligns with the strategic goals and highlighting opportunities and risks. As Finance Controller, you will be an integral part of the senior leadership team, helping to find solutions to critical issues and manage the relationship with external parties.
As Finance Controller, you will have wide-ranging responsibilities including:
- Cash flow – Review of weekly cash-flow forecasts and reporting, including working capital management;
- Finance Control & Management Reporting – Fully responsible for finance control and business reporting. Timely production of monthly Management accounts and Board Reports on the UK businesses’ financial performance and being fully responsible for the consolidated financial accounts for the UK Group;
- Day-to-Day Finances – Oversee the accuracy of all ledgers (Sales, purchase, and nominal), as well as payroll and human resources administration. Be responsible for Credit control policy, including Credit insurance, and oversee monthly payrolls for all group companies, group pension schemes, and employee benefits;
- Business Partner – with the operational managers on commercial and financial matters and attend meetings to establish finance control and drive operational excellence in management reporting development and a KPI report dashboard to meet strategic targets. Provide advice on how to increase profitability within the Group;
- Operational Excellence – Understanding the projects and associated costs and expense drivers for the business; active participation in operational and commercial initiatives and assisting in the implementation of the finance system;
- Finance Plans – Work closely with the Director and assist in forming the company’s financial strategy and the financial delivery of the strategic plan. Lead the annual budgeting process and forecasting, proposing action plans to meet yearly financial objectives;
- Liaison with External Authorities – Managing and coordinating all the year-end processes and being the point of contact for the external auditors, tax authorities and bank relationships, ensuring all timely submission of VAT returns CIS returns;
- Staff Management and Leadership – for a small team of finance and support staff. Responsible for the recruitment, performance and development of all the financial accounting staff, ensuring personal development plans and training needs are recognised;
- Initiatives and Ad hoc projects – Working with the Director on strategic and commercial initiatives and financial control across the company.
The successful candidate will be:
- Graduate calibre with accountancy qualification of ACCA, CIMA, ACA;
- Experienced operating at a Financial Controller and Finance Manager level, ideally experience working in a multi-sited group environment.
- A background within the manufacturing or contracting sector and ideally have project accounting experience.
- Have demonstrable hands-on experience in growing businesses, organically as well as via acquisition;
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office with Excel skills (Vlookups, Pivot tables);
- Results-focused with a positive outlook and can think pro-actively;
- Have a continuous improvement mindset looking to improve existing systems and procedures with an integrated ERP system;
- Excellent management skills in managing a small finance team;
- Flexible and self-motivated, keen to work autonomously and also part of the wider team;
- Able to communicate and manage internal and external stakeholders and manage the business risk.

8:30 am – 5:00 pm (1 hour lunch) with flexible start/finish times
